Netflix job listings posted over several weeks in spring 2026 describe a new animation division called INKubator, billed as a creative-led studio built natively around generative AI. It is meant to make animated shorts and specials through experimental AI pipelines, with an eye on eventually reaching feature quality.

A listing for a head of technology goes further, describing a need to support several productions at once and a plan to expand into longer-form work, with generative tools spread across development, visual development, production and post. After Cartoon Brew asked, Netflix confirmed an artist-led incubator for new stories based on its own IP and said Netflix Animation Studios' films will keep using traditional methods.

Cartoon Brew reads the postings as a shift in tone from Netflix's 2025 guidance on generative AI, which cast the technology as a supporting aid hedged with consent, legal review and protections for union work. The INKubator language is about building and scaling pipelines instead, which the outlet expects animation workers and labour advocates to see as a threat.

Netflix has a mixed history of disclosure here: it drew criticism for the 2023 AI-assisted anime short The Dog & The Boy, and only revealed AI-made effects in El Eternauta after release. The company had not otherwise commented on INKubator when the report ran.
