Netflix has acquired InterPositive, the filmmaking technology company Ben Affleck founded in 2022, for undisclosed terms. Its engineers, researchers and producers join the streamer, Affleck becomes a senior adviser, and the model will run alongside partner tools and Netflix's in-house effects unit Eyeline.
InterPositive does not generate video from prompts. Its model is trained only on one production's own dailies and helps during shooting and post: filling in missing shots, reframing, fixing lighting, and replacing or improving backgrounds. Because it learns only from footage of the performances already shot, Affleck argues it cannot impose anything foreign on a character.
Chief technology and product officer Elizabeth Stone pitched this as control and consistency for the director, and said productions will choose whether to use it; nothing will be mandated. Affleck says early generative video alarmed him until he saw how often it broke down, and he built a team of about 16 on a controlled soundstage to make something that serves filmmakers.
The deal extends Netflix's AI push at a moment when studios are careful not to look as though they are replacing creative staff, and the company leaned on that framing throughout. Affleck casts the tool as the next step in cinema's long run of technical change, taking logistics off filmmakers' hands. Netflix calls the tool early-stage and wants productions to help refine it before any wider use.
