Producer Warren "Oak" Felder and manager Lucas Keller, of Milk & Honey, have sued entrepreneurs Walter and Samia De Brouwer for $5 million over AI music software they say they helped create.
They say that from 2023 they worked with the couple on a tool that flags copyrighted chord material, and received shares in the couple's company Snowcrash in return. The suit claims the De Brouwers then shifted Snowcrash's software and patents to a new firm, Sound Patrol, leaving that stock worthless.
Sound Patrol, which lists Michael Ovitz as a co-founder, is said to have licensed the product to labels including Universal and Sony, with nothing paid to the plaintiffs.
