Korean studios are answering China's flood of AI-made short dramas with hybrids, the Korean outlet Sidae reports: actors are filmed for real, and AI fills in sets, action and effects that are hard to shoot. China's broadcast regulator says its short-drama market passed 100 billion yuan last year, and an industry body counts over 95% of short dramas released there in early 2026 as AI-made.
KT Studio Genie is using its new AI studio system on Musin Gwihwallok, a martial-arts short due this year, and KT ENA mixed AI recreation with voice cloning in a medical documentary. CJ ENM's 60-minute The House was shot in four days for 500 million won, with AI supplying most backgrounds.
An analyst says Korean viewers may reject fully AI-made work, so hybrids also suit audience taste.
