A Kapwing study built on Songstats data puts three AI-made country acts, Owen James, Breaking Rust and Cain Walker, among the most successful AI artists on Spotify, YouTube and the charts. Two of them, Breaking Rust and Cain Walker, are estimated to have earned about $731,851 between them from more than 166 million streams and views.
Breaking Rust has about 79.4 million Spotify streams and 71.7 million YouTube views, estimated at $469,963. Cain Walker has 41.3 million streams and 45.5 million views, worth about $261,888. Kapwing also counted 494 chart entries for Owen James, 407 for Breaking Rust and 399 for Cain Walker.
Taste of Country notes that tools such as Suno make these acts easy to create, and that they differ from deepfakes because no real singer is copied. Tennessee's ELVIS Act protects performers' voices and likenesses, but a wholly invented artist, with no existing voice copied and no performer behind it, can be released under a new name and falls outside that protection. The magazine says such acts have shown they can find an audience and earn real money.
