Actor Jared Harris has had his lawyers send a cease and desist to the makers of Films Not Made, a podcast that promoted itself with an AI-generated version of him he never agreed to. The show, hosted by producer Amy Hobby and director Avi Zev Weider, has guests revisit abandoned film ideas and uses AI to build a pitch deck and trailer for each.
In a statement, Harris said nobody had contacted him or his representatives, that the podcast is a commercial venture, and that contract and state and federal law protect his control over his image. He called it a textbook case of what creatives fear about AI.
Asked about the clip beforehand, Hobby cited having worked with Harris in the past, and Weider argued that everyone is already caught up in AI trained on their work. After the letter, Hobby said Harris had been removed from the promotional material.
