Indonesia's law ministry has confirmed a draft copyright bill that would write AI into the country's law for the first time, possibly a first in Southeast Asia.
Only AI-assisted work with enough human input could be protected, and fully generated work would not. Imitating a creator's distinctive style would be banned, AI use would have to be disclosed, and platforms would pay for material used in training, with penalties for breaches. How much human input counts is not yet defined.
No timetable has been set. Google has criticised the plan as over-broad, warning it would hurt local creators and investment.
