ByteDance has put the international rollout of its Seedance 2.0 video model on hold with no new date, The Decoder reports, citing The Information. The company had meant to offer it outside China in mid-March, both to businesses through its BytePlus cloud and as a consumer app.
Lawyers are now working through the complaints while engineers add filters against infringing output. Chinese subscribers say the new filters reject even harmless prompts, and enterprise use has been narrowed to content shown only inside China, with a reported entry price of about 10 million yuan.
The model went viral after its February release in China for convincing clips of real stars and studio characters. Disney, Netflix, Warner Bros., Paramount Skydance and Sony all sent cease-and-desist letters, the MPA called the copying systemic, SAG-AFTRA objected and Japan opened an inquiry over anime characters. ByteDance says it respects IP and is strengthening protections.
