AMC Theatres says it will not show "Thanksgiving Day", an animated short Igor Alferov made with Gemini 3.1 and Nano Banana Pro that won an AI film contest run by Modern Uprising Studios. The prize was a paid preshow run through ad seller Screenvision Media.
AMC says it had no role in the project, has told Screenvision to keep it off its screens, and that Screenvision serves under 30% of its US theatres anyway.
The short has been criticised online by artists and filmgoers. Cartoon Brew notes that many studios use AI tools but balk at generated stories and imagery. Screenvision did not comment, and it is unclear whether other chains will play it.
