Netflix's The Investigation of Lucy Letby is drawing criticism for using AI to change how two interviewees look. Letby is the British neonatal nurse convicted in 2023 of murdering seven babies.
A mother of one of the victims and a friend of Letby's appear on screen with AI-generated faces, labelled "digitally anonymized." Netflix says the filmmakers chose this with both participants' consent, to protect their identities by request or under court order.
Viewers called the faces distracting, citing mismatched expressions and blank eyes, and asked why a silhouette or actors weren't used.
PetaPixel notes that another AI film had been pulled from cinemas a week earlier.
