About this song
"Rubberz" is a synth-pop and dance-pop song about hedonism and heartbreak, with touches of pop rap and new wave, credited to the Los Angeles rapper Fenix Flexin and the producer Purps on the Beat. Its lead vocal is an AI voice of Fenix Flexin singing in a British accent that critics compared to Morrissey.
It came out on June 5, 2026 as a single through Flexxd Up Ent and Empire Distribution. From release it was accused of being AI-made, which Flexin denied for weeks, putting the sound down to Auto-Tune reverb and an accent. Producer Medasin's breakdown, the detection service HumanStandard and an analysis by The Verge pointed to the AI music platform Treblo (formerly Sonauto), and in August 2026 Treblo's co-founder Ryan Tremblay said the song was generated on the platform. Flexin then acknowledged AI was used, calling it a creative tool, while saying he never denied it.
The song peaked at number 58 on the Billboard Hot 100, described by Wikipedia as the first fully AI-generated song to appear there, and several outlets called it a song of the summer. Its official video had about 12.6 million YouTube views and the track about 54.5 million Spotify plays by October 2026.
