About Tate McRae
Tate Rosner McRae was born 1 July 2003 in Calgary, Alberta. She lived in Oman from ages two to five before returning to Calgary, and began as a competitive dancer. She placed third on So You Think You Can Dance in 2016 (season 13), the highest finish for a Canadian contestant.
She turned to music in 2017, posting original songs on YouTube, and signed with RCA Records in August 2019. "You Broke Me First" (2020) became her first Hot 100 entry and charted 38 weeks, the longest for a female artist that year.
Her releases include the EPs All the Things I Never Said (2020) and Too Young to Be Sad (2021) and the albums I Used to Think I Could Fly (2022), Think Later (2023) and So Close to What (2025), which topped the Billboard 200. Her style is pop, alternative pop and dance-pop with R&B and soul elements; she cites Lana Del Rey, Ariana Grande, The Weeknd and Taylor Swift as influences.
"Greedy" (15 September 2023) was her first worldwide number one on the Billboard Global 200 and peaked at number 3 on the Hot 100. In May 2025 "What I Want", with Morgan Wallen, gave her a first Hot 100 number one.
She won Juno Awards for Artist of the Year and Single of the Year ("Greedy") in 2024, received a Grammy nomination for Best Dance Pop Recording in 2025, and was on Forbes 30 Under 30 in 2020. As of January 2026 she had 2.9 billion YouTube views and 8.4 billion career streams.
