Biography
Patrick Cederberg is a member of shy kids, a Toronto indie pop band and filmmaking collective, with Walter Woodman and Matthew Hornick. The Eyeopener reports he met Woodman at a Pitman Hall orientation talent show at Ryerson University; the two, both Ryerson film studies graduates, wrote and directed Noah as a class project, and Cederberg also edited it. Told entirely on a teenager's computer screen, Noah won Best Canadian Short Film at TIFF in 2013 and the Canadian Screen Award for Best Live Action Short Drama.
On Air Head (2024), the shy kids short made with OpenAI's Sora before the model was released, fxguide says Cederberg led post-production and voiced Sonny, the balloon-headed lead; Leeding Lady Productions lists him as co-director with Woodman. He told fxguide the team generated clips at 480p from text prompts alone, upscaled them with Topaz Video AI, and produced roughly 300 times the footage that ended up in the 90-second film.
In After Effects the team recoloured a balloon Sora did not reliably render yellow, removed stray faces and strings, and retimed clips that came out in unrequested slow motion, cutting the material like a documentary to the voiceover. Cederberg likened controlling timing to a slot machine and called control the most wanted and most elusive quality of the tool at that point.
