About Noel Gallagher
Noel Thomas David Gallagher (born 29 May 1967) is an English musician, singer and songwriter. He is the primary songwriter, lead guitarist and a co-lead vocalist of the rock band Oasis, and after leaving it he formed Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds.
He began playing guitar at twelve and worked as a roadie and technician for Inspiral Carpets at 21. When his younger brother Liam joined a band called the Rain, which Liam renamed Oasis, Noel agreed to join on condition that he take creative control and become sole songwriter and lead guitarist. He was the only credited writer on the band's first three studio albums.
Oasis's debut Definitely Maybe (1994) was a critical and commercial success, (What's the Story) Morning Glory? (1995) topped the charts in many countries, and Be Here Now (1997) became the fastest-selling album in UK chart history. Later albums include Don't Believe the Truth (2005) and Dig Out Your Soul (2008). In August 2009, after an altercation with his brother, he announced his departure from the band.
Wikipedia counts nine UK number-one singles and twelve UK number-one albums, eight with Oasis and four with the High Flying Birds, and says he was the first artist to reach UK number one with ten consecutive studio albums. It describes him as widely considered one of the most influential songwriters in British rock, and notes his disputes with Liam made regular tabloid headlines.
