Biography

Julian Collin Bunetta is an American songwriter, record producer and mixing engineer, raised in Calabasas, California. His father Peter Bunetta is a drummer and producer, and his uncle Al Bunetta managed John Prine and co-founded Oh Boy Records. He began at Berklee College of Music in 2001, then left to write songs, working between Los Angeles and Nashville under a Warner Chappell publishing deal. His first credit was Little Big Town's "Live with Lonesome" (2005).

He partnered with John Ryan from 2010 and was signed to Syco Music, working as music producer on the first two seasons of the US X Factor. From 2011 he wrote for One Direction, including "Best Song Ever" (number 2), "Story of My Life" (number 6) and the Midnight Memories title track, and stayed through Made in the A.M. (2015).

Afterwards he worked with Niall Horan, co-writing "Slow Hands" (2017), and with Louis Tomlinson. In country he worked with Thomas Rhett, co-writing "Craving You" and producing every track of About a Woman (2024). With Teddy Swims he worked on "Lose Control" (2023), which reached number one on the Hot 100.

He co-wrote and produced Sabrina Carpenter's "Espresso" (2024, number 3) and produced "Taste". These brought three nominations at the 67th Grammy Awards, including Record of the Year and Album of the Year, and in November 2024 he topped Billboard's Hot 100 Producers chart. He co-founded Big Family Music Publishing in 2018 and signed to Sony Music Publishing in October 2024.
