Janie B

Janie B is an AI-generated 19-year-old sorority-rush hopeful made by a16z partner Olivia Moore as an experiment for the University of Alabama's Bama Rush in August 2026. Moore built her from one ChatGPT-rendered image and prompted every video, using MiniMax for talking clips, Grok Imagine for dancing and ElevenLabs for sound effects. Her TikTok @janie.b086 drew about 1,300 followers in a week; commenters and a Reddit thread identified her as AI within days, and TikTok auto-labelled 8 of her 20 videos 'Contains AI-generated media'. Moore revealed herself in a face-reveal video on bid day.

Summary

Janie B is an AI-generated 19-year-old sorority-rush hopeful made by a16z partner Olivia Moore as an experiment for the University of Alabama's Bama Rush in August 2026. Is Janie B AI?

Yes. Janie B is an AI-generated sorority-rush influencer on TikTok, created in August 2026 by a16z partner Olivia Moore, who prompted every video as an experiment.

The operator has said so herself. Olivia Moore, an investment partner at Andreessen Horowitz, wrote on a16z's site that Janie was born from a single ChatGPT image and that every video was prompted by her. She describes using ChatGPT to write prompts and video models to animate the character and give her speech and movement. The Free Press republished the same account, and Fox News independently reported that Janie "isn't real" and described the same workflow with ChatGPT and MiniMax.

No human performs as Janie. Moore appears on camera only in a separate face-reveal video where she explains who she is and why she made the account, which is a disclosure of the operator rather than a performer behind the face or voice. She also admits she did not mark the videos as AI-generated herself; TikTok's own AI label was applied to 8 of 20 videos at first, and Fox later reported 16 of 20.

What remains unknown is small: which exact tool voiced each clip, and whether the account will be used again, as it has been dormant since 24 August 2026. The account is a deliberate experiment in how viewers react to synthetic people, so there is no real student behind the name.

Evidence

  • Olivia Moore writes that Janie "was born out of a single image generated by ChatGPT, and every one of her videos was prompted by me", and that she did not mark the videos as AI-generated herself.

  • Fox News reports that Janie "isn't real", that Moore made her as an experiment, and that TikTok now shows an AI-generated media warning on 16 of her 20 AI videos.

  • The Free Press presents Moore's piece as a tech investor's test of how people react to an AI-generated influencer, repeating that the character came from one ChatGPT image.
