Guo Jingyu

Guo Jingyu was born in 1973 in Chengde, Hebei, and is a Chinese television director, screenwriter and producer who has directed since about 2002. Wikipedia lists among his works Blade of 1937, The Dog-Beating Stick and Great Waist Song, and he produced and wrote the 2020 pandemic drama The Most Beautiful Reverse Travellers.

He founded Changxin Media (长信传媒), which is moving from drama production towards developing and operating long-lived intellectual properties. Its core titles are Soul Ferry, The Enigma of the Tang Dynasty (唐朝诡事录) and Misty Rain Divine Journey, which he calls IPs to keep for life. He was among the first to make web dramas and to move into vertical-screen content.

Soul Ferry has been developed as a long drama, web films, a musical and short dramas. In 2026 it became what iQIYI called its first AIGC web film series, 'Floating Life Dream', with Guo as art director. He says the technique of AI plus performance transfer from the original actors was a compromise devised for this IP alone, and that AI will be a necessary supplement to live action.

On AI he is cautious: he would rather shoot live action when he can, uses AI for cases such as showing actors when younger, opposes use of actors' likenesses without authorisation, and holds that real performance will only become more valuable. He is married to the actress Yue Lina.
