Biography
Di Genius is the professional name of Stephen McGregor, a record producer, singer and songwriter from Kingston, Jamaica. He is the son of reggae singer Freddie McGregor, and his siblings Chino and Shema McGregor are also singers.
He recorded his first song at age five and began production work with local studios at twelve. His first hit riddim, "Cartoon", came in 2004 while he was at Ardenne High School, and he produced Mavado's "Weh Dem a Do" in 2006, which Wikipedia calls his defining moment. He produced most of Sean Paul's album Imperial Blaze (2009) and co-wrote and produced Nelly Furtado's "Don't Leave Me" (2012).
His credits reach into international pop: he co-wrote and co-produced Drake's "Controlla" and has worked with Shakira, John Legend, Matisyahu, Lianne La Havas, Ne-Yo and Estelle. He signed a global co-publishing deal with Warner Chappell Music in December 2019.
Pages list Grammy wins for Stony Hill (Best Reggae Album), El Dorado (Best Latin Pop Album) and Bigger Love (Best R&B Album), plus an ASCAP award for "Controlla". In 2025 he is credited as a writer on TWICE's "This Is For", whose acoustic cover is the credit here.
