About Darwin Deez
Darwin Deez is an American indie pop and indie rock act from New York City, active since 2009 and signed to Lucky Number Music. Its frontman and songwriter is Darwin Merwan Smith, who grew up in Chapel Hill, North Carolina, studied at Wesleyan University, played guitar for Creaky Boards and lives in Brooklyn. Wikipedia lists Greg Richardson, Andrew Hoepfner and Tim McCoy as current members.
The act first drew UK attention in late 2009 with the single "Constellations". Its follow-up "Radar Detector" reached number 62 on the UK Singles Chart and number 5 on the UK Indie Chart in 2010, and the self-titled debut album came out in the UK in April 2010 and the US in February 2011. Darwin Deez appeared on the cover of NME and placed in the top ten of its Cool List.
Later releases include Songs for Imaginative People (2013), Double Down (2015), 10 Songs That Happened When You Left Me with My Stupid Heart (2018) and the digital-only Of Course I Still Love You (December 2024), with electronic elements on the latest records. In 2018 the band toured fans' homes in a House Show Tour, which was documented by Sound It Out Films.
Smith has also directed some of the band's music videos, including "Say It First". The band received two Berlin Music Video Awards nominations, for Best Concept and Best VFX, without a win.
