Summary
Binxie is a CGI virtual influencer presented as an alien from Planet E88 who arrived on 'Erth' (Los Angeles) in 2019 and posts as a curious, quirky, high-energy friend of fellow persona Aliza Rexx. virtualhumans.org describes her as a bubbly 'wild child' with a love of over-the-top self-expression and lists her first appearance as 1 June 2019. Basic Magazine interviewed her alongside Aliza Rexx and the company it names as behind them, saying the pair had gathered over 127,000 followers together and were used for fashion and music work with brands. She is no longer posting: her last Instagram post is from March 2022, and virtualhumans.org marks her 'Inactive or Discontinued'.
Is Binxie AI?
Yes. Binxie is a computer-generated (CGI) virtual influencer, written as an alien from Planet E88 living in Los Angeles, made by a studio team, with no human performer named behind her.
Binxie has never been presented as a real person. Her Instagram bio, as virtualhumans.org quotes it, says "Not a human". In a Basic Magazine interview, the company answering for her calls her and her friend Aliza Rexx "non-human social media influencers" and credits them as "CGI avatars", with a lead 3D artist (Xander Smith) and a director of VFX and technology (Carl Bogan). The company says a team of artists and writers designs the characters and their posts, which explains who is behind the account.
The pages disagree about who that company is. virtualhumans.org says Neon Productions, founded by Ken Lande, created her. Basic Magazine names Aliza Technologies, "the brainchild of Brian Lee". Neither page mentions the other, and nothing we have explains the difference. Either way, both describe a studio-built digital character, not a person.
Some things are still unknown. She is CGI made by 3D artists, which is not the same as being produced by a generative AI model, and no page says which tools were used. The Basic shoot also credits a makeup artist (Priscilla Ono), which raises the possibility that a human model was photographed for part of it, but no page names a model, a body double or a voice. She has been dormant since March 2022.
