Summary
Bermuda is a blonde, blue-eyed, pro-Trump CGI Instagram character, billed as an alternate-universe counterpart to Lil Miquela. In April 2018 she 'hacked' Miquela's account, deleted its photos and replaced them with her own, demanding Miquela reveal secrets within 48 hours. The storyline led to the reveal that both characters were created by Brud, a Los Angeles startup; the hack is widely read as a staged PR stunt. Her bio reads 'Robot Queen', pointing to her 'sis Miquela'. Her Instagram has been inactive since September 2020.
Is Bermuda AI?
Yes. Bermuda is a computer-generated Instagram character, a blonde, pro-Trump rival to Lil Miquela, made by the Los Angeles startup Brud; no real person is named behind her.
Bermuda is not a real woman. BuzzFeed News and the Daily Dot both describe her as a CGI model, and BuzzFeed says plainly that Miquela and Bermuda are CGI, not the robots their storyline claims. Wikipedia's Lil Miquela article says that after Bermuda's staged "hack" of Miquela's account in April 2018, both characters were revealed to be creations of Brud, the startup led by McFedries and Decou. The German trade paper Horizont also names Miquela's creator as the one behind @Bermudaisbae and her boyfriend Blawko.
The sources disagree on one thing, and only at first. In the week of the hack, BuzzFeed noted that Brud had not publicly admitted to making Bermuda, though it said she was in fact made by the same people. Wikipedia's later account records the reveal, so we take Brud as her maker. Her own backstory, that a company called Cain Intelligence built her as a robot, is fiction. BuzzFeed calls Cain made up, and Horizont reports that its existence is openly doubted.
What no page says is who makes her images or writes her captions. They do not say whether she was built from a real body or face, or whether a human voice is used in her two YouTube videos. She is CGI, an older craft than today's generative AI, and no page names a human performer, so she counts as an AI persona.
