Alan J Popoff

A. Jay Popoff is the lead vocalist and occasional acoustic guitarist of Lit, an American rock band from Orange County, California. He is the brother of Lit guitarist Jeremy Popoff and has been with the band since the late 1980s.

He and high school friends formed the pop metal band Razzle around 1987, when he was about fourteen. He started on drums and moved to lead vocals in 1989. The group became Stain in 1994 and took the name Lit in 1995.

Lit broke through with the 1999 album A Place in the Sun, whose lead single spent eleven weeks atop the Alternative Airplay chart and won a Billboard Music Award. His delivery became tied to the band's pop-punk sound.

He has stayed with Lit continuously from 1988 to the present, through the band's shift from punk-influenced early work to the country-influenced These Are the Days in 2017.
