YouTube is redesigning its AI disclosure so viewers actually see it. On long-form videos the label now sits right under the player, and on Shorts it appears on top of the clip.
From May, YouTube's own systems also add the label when they detect heavy photorealistic AI use. Creators can remove an automatic label in YouTube Studio, except on videos whose C2PA metadata records an AI model, or that were made with Google tools such as Veo.
Labels have been compulsory for AI-assisted uploads since 2023, and C2PA provenance data was added a year later. Even so, slop channels keep coming back after this year's purge, and more than 200 advocates have written to CEO Neal Mohan asking that such videos be kept out of children's recommendations.
