Director Yeon Sang-ho is extending his thriller A Loveless Paradise with a four-part short series, A Loveless Paradise - Universe, which he wrote himself and which was produced with generative AI, so the medium matches the story's subject.
In the feature, a mother played by Kim Hyun-joo sees her son return, as if by miracle, nine years after he vanished in a school bus case. Yeon conceived the film as a study of people in the AI era. The shorts look instead at Trans Human, the company in the film that uses AI to bring back the dead.
In the first episode, Your Seaweed Soup, a widower spends an ordinary afternoon cooking with his late wife through a strange device. The second, Because Dad is There, has a girl reunited with her father through special glasses, until someone keys in the wrong door code at dawn and the mood turns sharply.
Both episodes premiere on the 29th, with parts three and four due on 6 October. Dispatch frames the series as asking whether AI can fill the space a loved one leaves or only open a new fear.
