Warner Bros. Discovery is facing criticism online over AI-made marketing for David Robert Mitchell's sci-fi thriller The End of Oak Street. The main clip, made with the dog-owner app DogPack, uses the AI animation and voices of its scripted Dogbone Podcast to have two canine hosts chat with Starbuck, the family dog in the film.
A separate AI video of dinosaurs attacking people also ran on the studio's Malaysian account. Instagram reaction was largely hostile, with some saying it put them off the film, while Facebook comments were kinder. TheWrap notes that studios almost never use AI imagery this openly in marketing.
Neither the studio nor the director commented. The film, starring Anne Hathaway and Ewan McGregor with a reported $85 million budget, opened that Friday.
