Utopai Studios, an AI-first film and TV studio based in Mountain View, has launched a rebuilt version of PAI, its production software for features and series, along with a video generation model of its own called Utopai X. TV Technology reported the launch on 30 September, drawing on the company's announcement.
Utopai X supplies the footage inside PAI. The company says it sits second on Artificial Analysis's text-to-video leaderboard for clips with audio, with an Elo rating of 1,150, just nine points off first place, and higher than any other US model there. That board ranks models by blind viewer votes. Utopai says the model is tuned for hard visuals such as reflections and caustics and for keeping space consistent across complicated shots.
PAI splits a screenplay into scenes and shots and keeps characters, locations, props and references tied to the project. AI Production Assistants help plan shots and try variations, while the filmmaker decides what stays. Takes can be compared side by side, old versions are kept, and chosen clips go on to Premiere or DaVinci Resolve. Utopai is using both on its own slate, including Mike Bender's animated feature The Most Serious Fart.
