C.C. Gong of Menlo Ventures, an investor in Suno, posted on X that she now does most of her listening on Suno instead of Spotify, then deleted it after AI copyright campaigner Ed Newton-Rex drew attention to it.
The post matters because Suno's defence in its label lawsuits rests on fair use, including the claim that its output does not compete with the recordings it trained on. Harm to the original's market is a key fair use test.
Co-founder Mikey Shulman had just said Suno reached $300 million in annualised revenue and two million paying subscribers. The Decoder notes one post will not decide a case.
