Spotlight, Snapchat's recommendation feed that pays creators, will no longer take videos made entirely with AI. They cannot be submitted, recommended or earn money through the monetisation program.

The line is drawn at fully generated work. Clips edited or enhanced with Snapchat's own AI features, from AI Lenses and My AI to its chat-to-song tool, stay eligible and will carry transparency markers. In its blog post the company insists the rule is not a rejection of AI, which it calls part of many people's creative process.

It builds on an April promise, made around an April Fools' joke renaming Spotlight "Reals", to show fewer synthetic videos and more everyday posts from real people.

Tubefilter sees the same tension as at Google, Meta and ByteDance, which push generative tools while fighting the slop they produce. It lists YouTube's ban on AI-generated "experts" in medicine and finance and LinkedIn's new report-slop button as similar moves.
