Netflix has become the first studio to threaten ByteDance with a lawsuit over Seedance 2.0, sending a cease-and-desist that calls the AI video tool a "high-speed piracy engine". It follows letters from Disney, Paramount and Warner Bros.
The streamer's litigation director pointed to generated clips drawing on Stranger Things, Squid Game, KPop Demon Hunters and Bridgerton, and said ByteDance's own BytePlus social accounts had promoted Bridgerton-style videos. Netflix wants generation stopped, infringing clips taken down and third-party access revoked, with a reply expected within days.
The letter came a day after ByteDance said it would strengthen safeguards against unauthorised use of IP and likeness, without saying what those would be.
