Luminate, the data company behind Billboard's charts, has published a report concluding that US consumers lean away from songs, films and shows made with generative AI. AI & Media: Audience Attitudes, released on July 24, draws on its Entertainment 365 survey of how people use AI tools and how AI involvement changes their appetite for content.

The picture is mixed rather than hostile. Some respondents did not much care whether AI had been involved. Resistance was highest for news written with AI and lowest for video games, where 40% said AI-made characters, settings or dialogue would not change their interest either way; for the other media about a third of respondents were indifferent.

Age mattered most. People 55 and over were the most negative across film, TV, music, social media and games, while 13 to 17 year olds came out net positive on every category. The gap between them and 18 to 24 year olds reached 58 points for AI-scripted film and TV and for AI social content, while older Gen Z, millennials and Gen X hovered near neutral. Luminate warned against treating Gen Z as one block and said differences inside a generation may matter more.

The report follows earlier Luminate music data showing around 44% of US listeners would lose interest in a song if they knew AI made it, with an original song sung by an AI voice the least comfortable case. It lands as Apple Music and Spotify roll out AI labels and Deezer reports AI tracks now outnumber human uploads on some days.
