South Korea's music copyright society KOMCA has reversed course and again refuses to register works made with AI, whether generated outright or only assisted. It banned both in April 2025, then eased the rule to accept songs where a human was the main creator and AI played a supporting part.
The looser rule drew complaints about vague guidance and a critical press conference in August from lawmaker and singer Kim Jae-won. It had also let in songs like Joseon HipHop's Melon Top 100 entry, made with Suno vocals, which is now ineligible for royalties again.
KOMCA says it is working with government and industry on clearer standards, including what counts as a primary creator.
