EarOne, the company that measures radio airplay in Italy, has published a policy that keeps songs made mainly by generative AI out of its airplay chart. The rules, labelled version 1.0 and dated 22 September 2026, split recordings into two groups: "AI-Assisted" tracks, where people did most of the creative work and AI helped with some parts, stay eligible, while "AI-Generated" tracks, where AI produced all or most of the creative elements, do not count.
EarOne says it backs uses of AI that add to human creativity rather than replace it, and the exclusion applies only to the ranking. Stations remain free to play AI tracks, and EarOne keeps logging those spins in its broadcast data; they simply add nothing to a song's chart position. Where several recordings of one song circulate, each version is judged on its own, and only the eligible ones score.
Checking starts at submission. On Mediasender, the service labels and promoters use to send music to radio, uploaders now have to say whether generative AI was involved and which category applies, and that label travels with the promo package stations receive. EarOne then runs the audio through AI Music Detector from Ircam Amplify, a French company linked to the IRCAM research institute. If nothing was declared, or the declaration and the analysis disagree, the distributor is asked to explain, and a track leaves the chart only once its AI-generated status is confirmed.
Allmusicitalia ties the move to the August row over "Dimanche Midi Pile", a track credited to Gisèle and licensed to Warner Records, which record body FIMI removed from its Top of the Music chart on 12 August and RTL 102.5 pulled from rotation. According to the report, it had logged more than 5,000 plays on 82 stations and reached number 21 on EarOne's airplay chart. The radio chart now sits alongside FIMI's AI criteria from July and the ban written into the Sanremo 2027 rules. For Italian labels and promoters, the practical change is that the declaration made at upload becomes the moment of record, and a mismatch with the detector is what starts a review.
