French producer HUGEL has asked the Recording Academy to review its decision to drop "Movin' To The Sun", his release with Imael Angel and Ultra Naté, from Grammy consideration because of AI concerns.
He wants the Academy to say which parts of the finished master triggered the ruling. He estimates about 95% of the released production was made conventionally or by people, and argues the master reflects substantial human work.
His team concedes AI was involved: the song grew from an earlier Imael Angel recording, and some of its ideas were kept on purpose. HUGEL says he rebuilt the instruments, drums and arrangement in Ableton Live with Maximilian Riehl and Loris Cimino, and has kept session files and working versions as evidence.
Academy guidance allows recordings with AI material to stay eligible when human authorship or performance meets the category's bar, so AI alone does not disqualify a track. The rules are still being refined.
