Faith No More fans noticed in January 2026 that Google's AI search features were linking singer Mike Patton to serious criminal allegations that have nothing to do with him, Metalhead Zone reported. Users on Reddit raised it first, warning that the false claim was also showing up as a suggestion when people typed his name.
The confusion seems to come from a different man of the same name, who received a sentence in 2006 in a US federal case over sexual offences against a minor, with guidelines of 151 to 188 months. Court records show no link to the musician, yet the AI merged the two identities. Fans worried about how many people had already seen and believed it, and some urged him to sue.
The outlet presents the case as an example of how AI-driven search can harm public figures who share a name with someone in criminal records, and calls for tighter verification and accountability when such systems connect people to damaging information. It notes that Patton's career runs well beyond the band, citing praise for him as a pioneer of experimental music, which it says makes the false link especially harmful. It also recalls, citing Tone Deaf, that his band Dead Cross, with Slayer drummer Dave Lombardo, was briefly held by Houston police in 2017 over a venue issue; neither he nor Lombardo was arrested. The report carried no comment from Patton or from Google.
