Louisa Livingstone, the cloaked figure on the cover of Black Sabbath's 1970 debut, has released Alice, a short rock opera EP made under her artist name Indreba. It reimagines Lewis Carroll's Alice books as a story about someone who falls for an AI chatbot, finds it is an illusion like much of the internet, and returns to herself and nature.
The record leans toward 1960s psychedelic rock; its opener nods to Jefferson Airplane's "White Rabbit" with lines about endless scrolling. Livingstone started making music on a computer about a decade ago using apps by Dream Theater's Jordan Rudess.
Speaking to Rolling Stone, she said she has used AI on her vocals, and that she once dismissed the technology but now sees it as a tool whose results depend on the person using it.
