The family of Andre Matos, the Brazilian metal singer who fronted Angra and Shaman and died in 2019, has asked fans to stop creating and sharing AI-generated pictures and videos that use his face and voice. His sister Helena Matos made the appeal in a video for the documentary project Maestro do Rock, Wikimetal reports.

She gave two reasons. One is legal: his image rights and copyright need protecting so his legacy is handled the way he would have wanted. The other, which she called the main one, is emotional. His mother Sônia, who is elderly and from another generation, and his son Adrian keep running into the material, and the family wants to spare them. She reminded fans that a mother lost her son and a boy lost his father, and asked them not to encourage or pass the content on.

Helena described accounts that go well beyond tribute, including one fan who posts AI images showing herself married to the singer and profiles that stage fake family photos as if he had fathered a child. She said she reported them and asked fans to report such pages rather than share them.

She drew a line between honest tributes and content that blurs reality, and urged fans to celebrate his music instead of his image. Her brother, she said, never took the rock-star look seriously and would not be pleased by synthetic pictures of himself.
