An AI-generated clip showing a film crew shooting a model of Miami being swept away by a giant wave reached close to 700 million views on Instagram within two days, from an account called wonderfulworldai.
Its caption claims no CGI, a hand-built miniature, a 40-foot wave tank and one take, so it reads as real behind-the-scenes footage. Only further down does it admit to being AI, and it appears to promote AI video firm Higgsfield. Instagram's small 'AI info' tag in the upper-left corner periodically vanishes from the screen.
Jeremy Carrasco, who tracks synthetic media, noted it beat every real behind-the-scenes clip and any MrBeast reel, and said it shows AI video winning the recommendation algorithm by rewarding deception and angry comments.
Instagram head Adam Mosseri has said on a podcast that the app should tell people when content is AI rather than filter it out, despite many users asking for one. PetaPixel points out that Meta is betting heavily on AI adoption, and recently ran an upbeat AI ad set to David Bowie's apocalyptic Five Years.
