Artist pages for jazz players including Sonny Criss, who died in 1977, cornetist Red Nichols, clarinetist Jimmie Noone and the still-active singer Jean Carne have been filled with new AI-generated releases on Spotify, Amazon Music and YouTube. As Futurism first reported, the tracks carry anime-style cover art and list the same obscure publisher and composer names.

The songs are bland jazz pastiches rather than remixes of real recordings, so music-ID tools can't match them and a casual listener could take them for the real artist.

Spotify says it removed the releases and pointed to Artist Profile Protection, a feature in testing that lets artists approve releases before they go live. Digital Music News asks why that protection is opt-in, and argues that most platforms react to AI spam after the fact, unlike Deezer, which detects AI tracks and removes them from its royalty pool.
